2011 Ceremony

THE 2011 WORLD FOOD PRIZE was formally awarded to H.E. John Kufuor, former President of Ghana, and H.E. Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, former president of Brazil, during a ceremony at the magnificent Iowa State Capitol on October 13, 2011.  The ceremony was held as part of the World Food Prize 2011 Borlaug Dialogue, themed “The Next Generation: Confronting the Hunger Challenges of Tomorrow.”

Presidents Kufuor and Lula da Silva received the World Food Prize for their personal commitment and visionary leadership while serving as the presidents of their countries, in creating and implementing government policies to alleviate hunger and poverty.

Over 800 dignitaries and experts from more than 75 countries attended.
