THE 2015 WORLD FOOD PRIZE was formally awarded to Sir Fazle Hasan Abed of Bangladesh, during a ceremony at the magnificent Iowa State Capitol on October 15, 2015. The ceremony was held as part of the World Food Prize 2015 Borlaug Dialogue, themed “Fundamentals of Global Food Security.”
Sir Fazle was honored with the award for his founding and direction of BRAC, the largest non-governmental organization in the world which is hailed as the most effective poverty-alleviation organization. His pioneering approach to eliminating hunger addresses the connections between hunger, poverty and powerlessness.
