Dr. Pedro Sanchez

Pedro A. Sánchez is Research Professor of Tropical Soils at the University of Florida Soil & Water Sciences Dept and core faculty of the Institute for Sustainable Food Systems . He was Director of the Center for Agriculture and Food Security and Senior Research Fellow at Columbia University. He was Director-General of the World Agroforestry Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, co-chair of the United Nations Millennium Project Task Force on Hunger and director of the Millennium Villages Project. Sanchez has overseen research programs in more than 25 countries in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa. Sánchez has written groundbreaking books on tropical soil science and hunger. He was awarded the World Food Prize in 2002 and was a MacArthur Fellow in 2004. He was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2012. In January 2017, he was appointed to the President's Committee for the National Medal of Science.
